Coming Mara! concerts

Dear Colleagues

I know you will be looking forward to having Mara! come to your school in a few weeks time and wish you much joy in sharing their beautiful music and lively performance with your students.

I am sure you have been making the best of the kit and the digital resources, but please remember if you have any questions I am happy to answer them!

I suggest you play the CD while you are doing other things in the next week so the students become really familiar with the music. However, please remember that Mara! play folk music, so their performance may be different from the recording, as that is the nature of folk music - it is a living thing! They may also play other music than what is in the kit and will definitely demonstrate how brilliantly they improvise in the concert. This means your students can have input into the performance with their own suggestions….Mara! will guide you in how it is done.

Don't forget that Mara! need information about your school before the concert - such as if there are lots of stairs, where to park, how far it is to lug gear, if the performance is in the hall or a classroom, how many students to expect etc etc. Making a few signs to guide them would be very helpful. Pleas make sure you have filled out the pre-visit sheet - especially Step 7!

They also need five glass of water, five chairs, a small table for their PA and access to a powerpoint…they are very portable and easy to work with.

They would prefer to be on the floor rather than a stage and also to have the students sitting on the floor so they can get them up dancing easily. Please make sure there is a centre aisle between the students so the band can move easily in amongst the students and get them up to participate.

Where possible they will arrive approximately a half hour before the first performance to set up and would appreciate it if the students were seated ready to go at the starting time (it is really important to keep to time as they have some long distances to travel). They would also appreciate some snacks, like fruit or a sandwich (with a vegetarian option) to keep them going. Any information about good local food outlets would be great.

If you have any questions about the tour itself please ring Jason or Anna on 0283946666.

Warmest and best wishes

Margie (Moore)

P.S. If you have time to post how the concert went and any information about yours and your students responses I would love to hear about them...
