Introducing Sue Lane

March 28, 2014 at 8:23 AM

Hi everyone,
I'm Sue Lane and I'm a teacher. I've worked for many years as a classroom teacher and as a Music and Arts specialist in primary and high schools as well as in Teacher Education at university.

My role as the National Manager Learning Engagement at Musica Viva In Schools focusses considerably on professional development as well as the development of Musicassentials resources for classrooms. I'm also the face that you see in quite a lot of the teaching videos and seminars.

What I enjoy most about my work at Musica Viva is having the opportunity to explore creative classroom ideas around the fabulous music of the Musica Viva In Schools performing groups. Its really exciting to then plan and present them in a useful way for teachers. We're always looking for new ideas to support teachers in their teaching so suggestions and feedback on our programs is always welcome.

Please feel free to add a post here or contact us at Musica Viva.
Warm regards,
Sue Lane

Dear Sue,
I have just had a quick glance at my newly acquired MusicaViva modules, but because I work in a special school for the severely disabled (high autism, etc.) and many of my students are non-verbal and suffer co-ordination difficulties, it appears that I am able to use, with modifications, only small sections of the work. I will be looking at the modules more closely over the next couple of days, to find more that I might be able to use.
I have been only able to download one module - the first one with nursery rhymes ( I do like the BaaBaa Black Sheep ideas). Perhaps I am not accessing/manipulating the correct technical procedures to be able to download the other module ?

Anyway, I have had a lovely chat with John H., who suggested that I access this help & support network .... so here I am, "touching base" with you ( all very at the bottom, I am afraid!). However, in spite of my 'birthing pains' it is exciting to have a support network.

Hi Lucia,
Great to hear from you about your teaching situation. I've also received your email via John. Have you had a chance to look through the online teaching videos for Nursery Rhymes Telling Stories? Let me know if you need the password for this and I can email it to you. I would suggest that you have a look through these for more ideas that would be effective with your students.

I suggest that you contact us again if you continue to have problems with the download and we will get this sorted for you. Calling the National Office to talk through this process may be the most helpful for you.

Lets keep in touch by email as well as your input and suggestions for effective ideas for your students will be really useful for development of materials with a Special Needs focus.

Hi Sue,

Thought I would post on the forum for the first time. I am currently teaching at Ulong P.S. 4 days a week. I explore musical concepts with all our students, from K-6.

Recently, I was fortunate enough to attend a professional development day with you at Coramba P.S. And I really enjoyed our session.

Next week, our school will be attending a performance by Pastance. We have been using the Pastance resource kit, that we were sent, to prepare our students for the day. I am sure that having access to the Pastance story, prior to the show, will ensure our students make the most of this experience. We are looking forward to the performance.

Kind regards
